About the station

The station sits on a broad ridge at roughly 780 m, on ground that stays open to the north and west. It was put up in the spring of 2019 with second-hand equipment and has been running, with gaps, ever since.

Why keep it

Official stations in this area are all in valleys. They record a different climate to the one a few hundred metres higher: colder nights in the hollows, far more wind on the tops, and fog that sits below the ridge for days without touching it. This log is an attempt to write down that difference over a long enough period to be useful to someone.

Gaps in the record

There is no data for most of winter 2021, when the anemometer bearing failed and a replacement took several months to arrive. Shorter gaps are usually power, and are noted in the entries either side.

Reuse

The observations may be reused for any purpose, with or without attribution. They are not calibrated against a reference instrument and should not be relied on where accuracy matters.
